1. Who We Are
Quick Scrap is a scrap vehicle collection service operated by Roman Drew, a sole trader trading as Quick Scrap, of Newham Road, Truro, TR1 2SU ("we", "us", "our"). We are registered with Cornwall Council as a scrap metal dealer under licence number LI25_000639.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use our website, our online quote widget, or otherwise contact us to sell a vehicle, why we collect it, and what your rights are under UK data protection law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
2. What Personal Data We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal data when you request a quote or book a vehicle collection with us:
Contact details: your name, phone number, and email address.
Address details: the collection address for your vehicle.
Vehicle details: registration number, make, model, condition, MOT status, and mileage.
Bank account details: sort code and account number, so that we can pay you for your vehicle by bank transfer.
Communications: any messages, calls, or correspondence between you and us regarding your booking.
If you contact us via our website's quote widget, we may also automatically collect limited technical information, such as your IP address and how you found our site (for example, via a Google Ads click), for the purposes described below.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your personal data to:
Provide you with an accurate quote for your vehicle.
Arrange and carry out collection of your vehicle.
Make payment to you for your vehicle by bank transfer.
Notify the DVLA of the vehicle's destruction/scrapping, as we are legally required to do as a licensed scrap metal dealer.
Comply with our record-keeping obligations under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, which requires us to keep records of vehicles and sellers for regulatory and law enforcement purposes.
Respond to any queries, complaints, or communications you send us.
Understand how our website and advertising are performing, in an aggregated and where possible non-identifiable way.
4. Our Legal Basis for Processing
We rely on the following legal bases under UK GDPR to process your personal data:
Contract — to take the steps necessary to provide a quote and carry out the collection and purchase of your vehicle.
Legal obligation — to comply with the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 and our obligation to notify the DVLA of vehicle destruction.
Legitimate interests — to operate and improve our business, including responding to enquiries and maintaining accurate business records, where this does not override your rights and interests.
5. Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited personal data with the following third parties, only where necessary:
The DVLA, to notify them of vehicle destruction as legally required.
Cornwall Council and relevant law enforcement or regulatory bodies, where required under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 or where legally compelled.
Our banking provider, to process payment transfers to you.
IT and software service providers who host our systems (such as our booking and quote platform), who process data on our behalf under appropriate data processing agreements.
Google, in relation to advertising performance measurement (for example, confirming that an enquiry resulted from a Google Ads click) — this does not involve sharing your name, address, vehicle registration, or bank details with Google.
6. How Long We Keep Your Data
We retain personal data relating to vehicle purchases for as long as required under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 record-keeping requirements, and in line with our tax and accounting obligations. Quote enquiries that do not proceed to a booking are retained for a limited period and then deleted, unless you ask us to keep in touch with you for future enquiries.
7. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
Request erasure of your personal data, where we are not legally required to retain it (for example, under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013).
Object to or request restriction of certain processing.
Request a copy of your data in a portable format, where applicable.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
8. Data Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data, particularly bank account details, against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. Access to systems holding your data is restricted to those who need it to carry out our services.
9. Cookies & Website Analytics
Our website and quote widget may use cookies or similar technologies to understand how visitors use our site and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising, including Google Ads. Where required, we will seek your consent for non-essential cookies through a cookie banner on our website.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The 'last updated' date at the top of this document shows when it was last revised.
